Crist close to joining 2014 Governor's race
According to numerous articles in recent weeks, former Republican Governor turned Democrat Charlie Crist is assembling a team of Democratic political advisors and operatives in an expected upcoming bid for the Democratic nomination for Governor. According to sources Crist has been talking to political consultants in Washington about what is expected to be one of the most exciting and expensive gubernatorial races in the country.
One time political opponents have turned into allies. Former state Senator Dan Gelber of Miami Beach who was touted as a potential running for 2006 DEM nominee and Crist opponent Jim Davis. Gelber is frequently mentioned as someone who is on the short list for Lt. Governor with Crist. Former State Senator Steve Geller of Broward County who supported Jim Davis for governor in 2006. Theres former US Representative Robert Wexler in Palm Beach. Former State Senator Tony Hill of Jacksonville and former Attorney General Bob Butterworth.
Steve Schale one of Barack Obama's top operatives in Florida is also quiety advising the former Republican Governor. Eric Johnson, Rep. Patrick Murphy's chief of staff is also an unpaid Crist advisor.
As a Progressive Democrat I look forward to hearing Crist explain his past opposition to same sex marriages, abortion, and his support of John McCain/Sarah Palin in 2008. His employment with former Senator Connie Mack and past support of Jeb Bush. As a Progressive, I support former state Senator Nan Rich in the Dem primary for Governor. I welcome Crist to the church but I don't think he's ready to lead the congregation.
